About this tool
Delays and reverbs sound best when they move with the beat. Type the BPM of your song and get the delay time for every note value, normal, dotted and triplet, plus musical pre-delay and decay times for your reverb.
Questions
How do you work out delay time from BPM?
A quarter note in milliseconds is 60,000 ÷ BPM. Halve it for 8th notes, multiply by 1.5 for dotted and by ⅔ for triplets.
What delay is best for vocals?
A 1/4 or dotted 1/8 delay is a classic choice. Keep it low in the mix so it fills the space without getting in the way.
What is reverb pre-delay?
The short gap before the reverb starts. A little pre-delay keeps the vocal clear while the reverb adds space behind it.
What is the LFO rate column?
The same note values as a speed in hertz, for syncing tremolo, chorus or auto-pan to the beat.
